3 Tasks - overview 2 new tasks each year for each cohort (6 for DA and 3 for SA) Only one task should be submitted (2 for DA) Task has 3 parts –Part A (Planning and Risk Assessment) –Part B (Data Collection) –Part C (Processing, Analysis and Evaluation) Available in September/October on CD and held by Examinations Officer –Teacher Guidance Notes –Candidate Response Booklet A (for Planning and Risk Assessment and data collection) –Candidate Response Booklet B (for Processing, Analysis and Evaluation) –Mark scheme Can be taken at any time All work must be hand-written (including notes made during the planning phase)

7 Marking Part A (Planning and Risk Assessment) No redrafting allowed Use generic mark bands (P16 – general guidance booklet) Marked out of 18 3 options to allow candidates to move on after the plan/risk assessment has been marked (P5 –General Guidance) –plan and risk assessment are appropriate –plan and risk assessment are appropriate with some minor amendments –plan and risk assessment are unsuitable and inappropriate

8 Part B - Data Collection Not assessed (limited control) No time limit Teacher can give very significant help and guidance to ensure suitable results are obtained and recorded Maximum – three per group In some cases data sharing may be permissible (see teacher guidance notes for individual tasks) Data/results recorded in Candidate response booklet A

9 Part C – Processing, Analysis and Evaluation Assessed Formal (High) control Completed in Candidate Response Booklet B No assistance – must be completed independently Need to refer to their plan and data collected Marked out of 27 using mark scheme supplied Time –limit 1h (to be completed in one sitting) Contains questions relating to their own data and secondary data supplied

13 Accessing the Controlled Assessment Materials The Examinations Officer will receive a CD with password protected documents The CD will be held securely by the Examinations Officer at all times. It will not be released to any other member of staff however the Head of Department may request hard (paper) copies of the all documents from the Examinations Officer on the following basis:

14 Guidance Notes for Teachers may be released immediately for all tasks. Candidate Response Booklets A and B can only be released 3 working days in advance of beginning the Planning and Risk Assessment stage of the Controlled Assessment Task. The Mark Scheme can only be released on completion of Candidate Response Booklet B. All hard (paper) copies must be stored in a secure location eg. metal, lockable cabinet where access is limited When Candidate Response Booklet B has been marked, the mark scheme must be returned to the Examinations Officer for secure disposal.

16 Principal Moderator’s Report Overall CA process went extremely well – teachers are to be commended for their accuracy and consistency in marking Very few centres needed adjustment Administration was good – remember to submit sample in rank order – not candidate order Check transfer of marks from Candidate booklet to CRS to TAC 1 Check totalling of marks – especially booklet B Always use and staple on CCEA marking grids Always check that you are using the correct CATs for each cohort: –Current Year 11 use 2013 – 2015 –Current Year 12 use 2012 - 2014

17 Claims Forms Please remember to complete the mileage claim form before you leave today and also a BACs form if you have never made a claim from CCEA before. Due to the new Auto Enrolment procedures anyone making a claim for expenses must complete a Personal Data Form before they can be paid – auto-enrolment@ccea.org.uk

26 Points to Note Use red pen Adhere to the mark scheme Use your professional judgement If you feel strongly that response deserves credit – award marks and annotate to explain why credit given Do not penalise same mistake twice ie. carry error forward/through

28 Allocation of Numerical Scores Only use Teacher Mark Column Use sub-totals for each question part Place question total in circle in Teacher Mark column, opposite the beginning of the question Do not use Moderator Mark column Be careful with totalling and transferring marks
