6 “a-g” FRESHMAN ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS SUBJECT REQUIREMENT (Courses Must be Completed with a Grade of C or Better) REQUIRED NUMBER OF YEARS “a” History/Social Science: One year of U.S. History or one Semester of U.S. History and one Semester of American Government AND one year of History/Social Science 2 Years “b” English: College Preparatory English Composition/ Literature (including no more than one year of advanced ESL/ELD) 4 Years “c” Mathematics: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Higher Mathematics 3 Years (4 Years Recommended) “d” Laboratory Science: One year Biological Science and one year Physical Science 2 Years “e” Language other than English: Must be the same language, including American Sign Language 2 Years “f” Visual and Performing Arts: One year (or two-one semester courses in the same discipline) required, chosen from the following disciplines: Dance, Music, Theatre, Drama and Visual Arts (e.g., painting, web/graphics, design, film/video, inter/multimedia arts) 1 Year “g” College Preparatory Elective: From University of California approved “a-g” course list www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g- requirements/index.html 1 Year

7 College Entrance Tests & Scoring The CSU accepts the SAT or ACT. CSU only looks at Critical Reading and Math portion of SAT. If a student submits multiple score reports the highest score earned in each single sub score of the examination is used. Example: 1st time: 500 M + 600 CR= 1100 2nd time: 550 M + 550 CR= 1100 CSU total = 550 M + 600 CR= 1150 CSU Mentor Code for SAT: 3594

8 Eligibility Index GPA x 800 + SAT = (GPA x 200) + (10 x ACT) = Minimum CSU Eligibility for non impacted campuses is 2900 SAT or 694 ACT

10 IMPACTION Campus Impaction: A campus receives more eligible applications in the initial filing period than there are enrollment spaces available for the class level (freshman or upper division transfer). Program/Major Impaction: A campus receives more eligible applications for a specific undergraduate program in the initial filing period than there are enrollment spaces available. 14 Final Tips: Apply early Stay on top of emails, check your portals Remember that when you are admitted it is conditional (you have to complete your last semester of high school and still meet the admissions requirements)! Take a campus tour!
