Renewable Resource Research Project Ecology Class Mr. Wolford and Mr. Zardezed

Renewable Energy Resources

Introduction President Obama and the U.S. Department of Energy are looking for student help in promoting and educating others about renewable energy resources, but they need some help with the research. They have called on us to do this for them. Your task is to research the renewable resource assigned to you and design a power point presentation to be used by the President and the U. S. Department of Energy secretary at the national level to inform the public about the need to use your renewable resource to reduce our dependence on nonrenewable energy resources. You should use information we have learned in class on nonrenewable resources to prove your point.

Group Task 1. Research the renewable resource for energy that was assigned to you to replace the dependence on nonrenewable resources. 2. Identify the source of this resource and how it can be effectively produced. 3. Describe the ways this resource can be used in our society. 4. Determine the benefits and drawbacks of using this renewable resource versus the nonrenewable resources. 5. Design a power point presentation to persuade others to use this type of renewable energy.

Process Step 1: You will be working in groups of four to complete this task, so you must determine what role each of you will take on.

Role 1: Environmental Expert – You are responsible for determining the impact using the renewable resource will have on our environment. Questions you may want to consider are: 1.How does the use of non-renewable resources affect our environment? 2.What are some environmental reasons for using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels? 3.How can we save energy so we do not use up our resources too fast? 4.What are some alternative energy sources that are currently being used by the American people? 5.What are the benefits and drawbacks to using this form of renewable resource?

Role 2: Technical Expert – You are responsible for finding out how feasible it is to use this energy source and the background of where it comes from and how it can work. Questions you may want to consider are: 1. Where does my energy source come from and how can it be produced? 2. How does my energy source work? 3. Has it been tried before in the past? 4. What are the costs? 5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the energy source?

Step 2: Research the energy source assigned to you using the teacher approved resources. Be sure to answer the questions from each role and answer any questions you may consider on your own. Process

Resources: The following resources are required: * One Book * One Internet Resource * One Additional Resources: Internet, Data Base, or Book Source

Step 3: After you have completed steps 1 and 2, work together to gather the information you have found to complete the task of informing the President and the Department of Energy by creating a power point presentation to persuade others to use this type of renewable energy. Be sure to answer the questions found in the task and under each role to effectively argue your point. Process

Assignment Expectations (Individual) Must create an Individual Folder: Labeled with your own name Three things that must be included are: 100 pts Daily Grade – Web quest Questions You will identify your role and answer questions #1-5. The questions must be answered using complete sentences. 100 pts Daily Grade – Documented Research You must have at least 5 different sources and create notes which will be used to help create a power point on renewable energy source. 100 pts Daily Grade – Illustrations and/or Animations – Work Cited You must properly document all information from your research.

Assignment Expectations (Team) Must create a Group Folder: Labeled with your group’s name Thing that must be included: Power Point Presentation – Test Grade

Collaborative Presentation Guidelines In Google or Google Chrome: Step 1 - Create a Gmail Account following the steps provided to you. Step 2 - Then go back to google and click on nine boxes icon Step 3 – Then select Drive Account – Triangle Symbol Step 4 – Then select New and select google slides Step 5 – Once google slides come up, you will choose a theme. Step 6 – Now please click the share button and create a name for this presentation for the group. Step 7 – Now you can share with others by entering each group member’s email addresses. Make sure you select CAN EDIT choice…. since each person will be editing the project individually. Step 8 – Once you have entered them all, select done.

Collaborative Presentation Guidelines “Continued” Once it’s completed… and you are ready to submit one project to your teacher, you need to complete the following steps: Step 1 – Select file, download as – Microsoft Power point Step 2 – Open up this Power point presentation and make sure everything has been copied appropriately. Step 3 – Click File, Save as – Name your presentation, including all team members names and project name. Step 4 – Again, click File, Save as – this time selecting student shared folder, then Wolford folder file, and then your block folder file and click save. You will not be able to see you presentation once you click save… you are essentially entering your project in our drop box for us to grade your project.
