1 What would doctors do today with Holden and his depression? A child should also have a chance to talk about things in private. Your doctor may ask for more information from a teacher or someone else who knows your child well. In the novel Catcher in the rye there are a few encounters with teachers and advisors who would talk to Holden and explain to him how he needs to get help before it is too late.

2 Some questions a Doctor might ask at first Is anything worrying or upsetting you? ▫Holden was upset about his brother Allie dying and what bothers him most is the amount of phoniness in the world and how the children will be corrupt by it. What helps you cope? ▫Holden copes by drinking, smoking, but most importantly he trys to find someone to talk to. Who do you turn to if you have problems? ▫Holden turned to his teachers and Mr. Luce How is your health? ▫Judging by his daily schedule, he only gets up to three hours of sleep, doesn’t eat very much at all, and is constantly drinking or smoking he is in very bad health. How are things going at school? ▫He has failed out of three private schools What do you do in your free time? ▫He likes to write. He thinks quiet a bit about his life the world and the people in it

3 How are you getting along with friends? ▫He has the potential to have friends but he just pushes them away How are you getting along with your family? ▫His parents don’t seem very present in his life but they are there. D.B. isn’t exactly around much like his parents but he is available to help. His sister Phoebe is the most supportive. Do you use drugs or drink alcohol? ▫He smokes and often spends time at the bar. Do you think about hurting yourself or other people? ▫Holden does have thoughts about suicide and gets in quit a few fights.
