3. Digital Commons @ Kent State University Libraries Digital Commons @ Kent State University Libraries launched in October of 2013. Institutional Repository Manager was not given detailed objectives. Purpose of the IR is “to publicize, disseminate, and preserve the scholarly work of Kent State University scholars and affiliates in an open access environment for the purpose of shared knowledge and learning.” IR Manager initiated collection of stats that primarily tracked growth of the IR with limited information about usage. Digital Collections @ KSU Libraries With the addition of a Digital Projects Librarian, our team started to consider more meaningful metrics and the application of a set of metrics across digital collections on multiple platforms. Referenced the Toolkit for the Impact of Digitised Scholarly Resources –http://microsites.oii.ox.ac.uk/tidsr/http://microsites.oii.ox.ac.uk/tidsr/ Identified type of metrics within the categories of Sustainability, Usage, and Access/Discoverability Created metrics spreadsheet defining metrics as Quantitative or Qualitative and identifying Tools. Investigating subscription tools such as Plum Analytics

5. Categories Quantitative Numerical information about collections Qualitative Information about how collections are used. Sustainability Who is mentioning/interested? Usage What did they do? Where did they click? Access/Discoverability How do users arrive there? Categories overlap and are not rigidly defined but are useful for discussion and selection of tools.

Digital Collections @ KSU Libraries Selected collections for initial bi-monthly analysis Set schedule for reporting and statistic capturing Routinely review retrieved statistics Use statistics to gauge use, value and impact Routinely review statistics in-depth Can this new information provide meaningful information for collection development for digital content? Track how marketing and promotion impact usage of digital collections. Identify any surprises (unknown unknowns?) Tweak and apply to other collections from launch This is not the final list of tools but an example of a list of tools to use on selected collections.
