A freshwater biome is a body of water that contains little salt. ( Less than 1%) Freshwater can include ponds, lakes, rivers, dams, streams, creeks, wetlands, swamps, mires, bogs, groundwater in aquifers, underground streams, puddles, it can also be contained in glaciers, ice sheets, ice caps and icebergs.

Freshwater covers roughly 20% of the Earth and is in various locations all over the world.

Creek River Bog Iceberg Underground Stream Dam

Silty Sandy Clay

“99% of all freshwater is either in the form of ice or located in an aquifer.” “Smaller bodies of water such as ditches and puddles are also considered freshwater biomes because they help some form of life to survive. “ “Every freshwater biome is unique because they all contain a range of animal and plant species, different climates, and various amounts of water. No two freshwater biomes are exactly the same. “ “The largest freshwater biome is the Florida Everglades.” “There are over 700 different species of fish that live in a freshwater biome. “ http://www.softschools.com/facts/biomes/freshwater_biome_facts/166/

Abiotic Speed in which the water flows Weather Average (Climate) Amount of Sunlight Biotic Several plants in Freshwater 40% of fish species abide in Freshwater 12% of the worlds known animals live in Freshwater.

Humans depend on Freshwater ecosystems for survival but their impacts can be devastating. Water over usage Water Pollution Wastewater Pollution runoff

12% of animals live in freshwater biomes. Fish (common types are trout, salmon, and bass) Amphibians (frogs, toads, and salamanders) Otters Beavers Reptiles (turtles, alligators, etc.) Birds (such as ducks, geese, and swans) Turtles Insects (such as ticks, leeches, dragonflies, etc.)

Example of Competitions are cattails, river rats, and sea otter. Cattails give river rats or otters a place to live and hunt. Competition would be the river rat fight against the otter for food and the resource of the cattails Cattails River rat Otter

There are many Freshwater vacation spots near us such as – Staunton River, Holliday Lake, Briery, Buggs Island, and the James River.

Freshwater provides many fun recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, tubing, boat riding, and water skiing.

1.What percent of animals live in Freshwater? 2.What is the percentage of salt in Freshwater? 3.What is 3 sources of Freshwater? 4.What is a biotic factor of Freshwater? 5.What is an abiotic factor of Freshwater? 6.What is the average climate of freshwater in summer? 7.Where is the largest Freshwater biome? 8.True or False- No 2 freshwater biomes are exactly the same. 9.99% of all freshwater is either in the form of ______ or located in an aquifer. 10.Puddles and ditches are considered freshwater biomes because they help some form of ______ to survive.
