4 Stainless Steel Reinforced Piles Develop precast prestressed concrete piles for marine environment with 100+ year service life Use most economical stainless steel Three 16-in. square, 70-ft. piles with stainless steel (1/2-in. strand) Two 70-ft. piles with conventional steel (7/16-in. strand) Different strand sizes to give same prestress force

6 Conclusions & Implementation Pile construction with 2205 stainless steel strand and 304 transverse reinforcement is identical to that with conventional reinforcement Used for Liberty County bridge opened in June 2016 SS 2205 for strand is now produced in the USA and satisfies “Buy America” requirements
