1 The beginning of the end.

2 ● D-day began when Germany invaded France. D-day happened on June 6th in 1944. ● This caused the operation Overlord, commenced to infiltrate Germany.

3 The battle begins.

4 ● Thousands of Allied troops have begun landing on the beaches of Normandy in northern France at the start of a major offensive against the Germans. ● Thousands of paratroops and glider-borne troops have also been dropped behind enemy lines and the Allies are already said to have penetrated several miles inland.

5 ● The landings were preceded by air attacks along the French coast. ● About 1,300 RAF planes were involved in the first wave of assaults then 1,000 American bombers took up the attack dropping bombs on targets in northern France.

6 The end of Dooms day. ● The Nazis fought desperately, but by this time Germany was at the end of her strength, and many Nazis soldiers were just 16-year old's. ● By August Paris had fallen and (despite a short Nazi counter-attack called ‘The Battle of the Bulge’) the Allies pushed relentlessly into Germany until they met up with Russian forces. ● On 7 May, 1945, the Nazis surrendered – it was VE Day (Victory in Europe.) ●
