2 Unit 5 Traveling Abroad Using Language (Listening & Reading) Task1: Look at the map of South America on the next page. Find the cities of Lima and Cuzco and the Andes Mountains. Discuss with others in your class what you already know about Peru.

4 Task 2: Now Lia wants to visit Peru. She goes to a travel agent to find out the best way to travel there. Let’s listen to the conversation between Lia and a travel agent and try to know more about Peru. Before you listen, go through the things listed in Exercise 2 on Page41. then listen and tick the things Lia says she liked going.

Cuzco combines many of the things Lia likes doing. She can stay on her own in a hotel and take tours when she wants some company. The travel agent gives her a brochure.

8 Reading 1. Why is Cuzco popular with tourists? Cuzco is a popular tourist destination as it is close to the famous Inca ruins of the city of Machu Picchu. It’s a city where both Indian and Spanish culture and art can be seen. 2. What is special about Lake Titicaca? It is the highest navigable lake in the world. 3. What do you think the official languages of Peru are? They are Indian and Spanish.
