4 Initial Investigative Walkthrough Initial Impressions (what you have?) – Deceased subject – What might be cause of death (gunshot wound, blunt force trauma, sharp force trauma, etc.) – Possible manner= Homicide/Undetermined – Presence of Weapon? – Variety of evidence (such as, but not limited to) Physical evidence Other biological evidence Bloodstains Plant stuff – Decide on processing method

5 Scene Processing Start from your starting point and describe scene (based on search method) Place photos as appropriate (correspond with evidence) Detail collection method used for each physical item of evidence Detail any processing of evidence in place Detail plant evidence where found (is this local to the area?) and collection as well as analysis desired

6 Scene Processing Detail blood evidence – Patterns – Conclusions drawn from those patterns Detail latent prints Detail any other evidence Explain body analysis – Your observations- how body positioned, where were the injuries and any evidence on body

7 Diagram Include Scene Diagram at the end of the scene selection Along with a labeled overall photo to match the diagram – Label evidence on the photo to correspond with the diagram

8 Lab Process Explain lab techniques used to analyze evidence Indicate results

9 Conclusions Draw your conclusions based on evidence – Try not to infer, but connect your evidence to your results Give your hypothesis about what happened – Accident/suicide/homicide/equivocal (can’t tell) Make sure you connect your suspect to your scene and your victim as well as your weapon if you are naming a suspect (the evidence trinity)
