3 3 The Need for Standards We need standards for ePortfolios which enable –Portability of ePortfolios across applications –Comparability of portfolio data across organizations –Interoperability of applications with other systems Behaviors and services Darren Cambridge

4 4 What Kind of Standards and How Technical Interoperability Standards –NOT educational standards (we might need those too) Data and Services, Messaging –IMS and EPICC Implement them in products, organisations, feed back to standards (cycle)

5 5 Conflict Complete Interoperability requires –All portfolios do the same ? Common denominator –Conceptual pieces –Data exchange format –Iterative focus for further development One portfolio or many ?

6 6 Requirements Learning - Pre-formal, formal, post- formal Social – formal, informal –Workplace, family, community What kinds portfolio, what kinds of content, what kinds of authoring ? Accessible –This is a tough one.

7 7 IMS ep Specifications A data model for exchange of data Timeline –Formed May 2003 –Charter passed Technical Board December 2003 –Base Document passed April 2004 –Public Draft released September 2004 Open to public comment until November 12, 2004 –Final specification, if approved, to be released May 2005
