Although the Palestinians are fiercely independent, they were invaded and segregated by many different nations. This led to conflicts between different ethnic groups that inhabited in the area and the powers that controlled Palestine at the time. These factors lead to constant fighting and strong nationalistic values and ethnic divisions. For example, during the Great War, Palestine was under control of the Ottomans, because of this Arab groups revolted against the Ottomans. However, After the war, Palestine was mandated by Great Britain this angered the Palestinians greatly and led to many revolts for independence.

1073-Seljuk Turks 1098-Fatimids 1099-Crusaders take over Palestine 1187-Saladins forces of Egypt and Syria. 1260- Mongol Empire 1486- Ottomans 1836-Egypt 1921-British 1935-Egypt, Syria, and Jordan These are some of the Egyptians that were occupying Palestine before the Bristish mandated Palestine.

During World War I, Palestine was used as a staging ground for the Ottomans. Some Palestinian troops could have been in the Ottoman Army, but there was no recorded data specifically for the Palestinians. After World War II, Palestine and Israel were both their own separate land. Palestine was eventually conquered by Egypt and Jordan when Britain did not have a mandate on Palestine. These are some Ottoman troops during World War I, which may have included some Palestinian troops.

1560’s: The Arabs and the Jewish were the natives of Palestine, but were conquered by the Ottoman Empire, at its peak of power, but the Palestinians were held by the Ottomans until their defeat in World War I. 1920’s: After World War I, Great Britain mandated Palestine until after World War II when Israel gained independence, and the Arabs revolted. Palestinians adopted the Europeans technology such as fighter jets and other modern technologies. They also adopted Democracy from the European nations. These are some of the jets that are found in Palestine and Israel.

Held under Ottoman Rule Egypt/Syria British Mandate Road to Independence

The A’ayan “Notables” were a critical group in gaining Palestine its independence The “Notables” were made up of many families that wanted Palestine to be its own nation. The Arab-Israeli War (1948) After the War, the UN made a partition plan of Palestine and Israel. The Six-Day War (1967) Israel took control of the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and took the Sinnai Peninsula from Egypt and some of the land was Palestinian. Israel demolished Egypt, Syrian, and Jordan forces in less than 6 days! Signed Declaration of Independence in 1988!

Land taken by Israel UN plan to split up Palestine and Israel

The Independence of Palestine came gradually because they were ruled by so many nations, that they never could establish a “working” government in the time that they were “independent” from foreign rule. In their forming nation, religion played a significant role and even today you may hear about the Israeli- Palestinian Conflict. Palestine was a lot like Japan when it came to foreign influence, they accepted the foreign technology, but tried to maintain all of its traditions and values. The nation of Palestine also became Democratic like its Western influences.

Palestine wanted its independence after being ruled over for just over 400 years. Their independence gradually grew over time until they were independent from foreign rule. The nationalistic “Notibles” helped establish the nation that is Palestine.
