PSA: How to avoid natural disaster BY: Madison Hoover Personal Health CP

 In todays world natural disasters are quite common. I will tell you how to be prepared for 3 of the most common ones including earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

Earthquakes  Earthquakes occur when the subterranean rocks shift. This causes the ground to vibrate and shake, which can lead to major damage.

Earthquakes Continued  Luckily, there are ways to prepare for earthquakes. Where ever you are, it’s a good idea to hide under something sturdy and move away from glass.  If you’re at school hide under a desk. If at home, hide in a closet or bathroom with no windows.  Make a plan for each room of your house and know where to go if an earthquake did happen and you were in that room.

Hurricanes  A hurricane is basically a severe tropical storm that can cause a lot of damage.  Fortunately, hurricanes are predictable so most of the time you’ll have time to evacuate.

Hurricanes Continued  Before evacuation you should make an emergency kit. Include things such as food, water, and essential supplies.  In some cases you aren’t able to evacuate. With this, you need to make it to the lowest level of the building you’re in and stay away from windows.

Tornadoes  A tornado is a strong funnel of hot and cold air. They are very powerful, a tornado can easily lift a house up and send it through the air.

Tornadoes Continued  If you’re in a structure, such as a house or school, try to make it to the lowest level. It’s better to go in a room more in the center of the structure.  The most important tip is to protect your head and neck.
