 A violent rotating column extending from a thunderstorm to the ground.

 What causes a tornado?  Tornadoes form in unusually violent thunderstorms sufficient, (1) instability and (2) wind shear present in the lower atmosphere  How do you predict a tornado?

The tornadoes are measured by the Fujita Scale. From F-0( weakest)to F-5( strongest)

During any storm, listen to local news to stay informed about tornado watches and warnings. Know your community's warning system. Communities have different ways of warning residents about tornados, with many having sirens intended for outdoor warning purposes. Pick a safe room in your home where household members and pets may gather during a tornado. This should be a basement, storm cellar or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. Practice periodic tornado drills so that everyone knows what to do if a tornado is approaching. Prepare for high winds by removing diseased and damaged limbs from trees. Move or secure lawn furniture, trash cans, hanging plants or anything else that can be picked up by the wind and become a projectile. Watch for tornado danger signs: ̶ Funnel cloud – a visible rotating extension of the cloud base The safest place to be is an underground shelter, basement or safe room. If no underground shelter or safe room is available, a small, windowless interior room or hallway on the lowest level of a sturdy building is the safest alternative.

 Hurricanes are strong storms that can be life-threatening as well as cause serious property-threatening hazards such as flooding, high winds and tornadoes.

TThey track visible clouds and air circulation patterns, while radar measures rain, wind speeds and precipitation.

 Hurricane are measured from the Simpson Scale

 Watch  Hurricane conditions are a threat within 48 hours. Review your hurricane plans. Get ready to act if a warning is issued, and stay informed  Warning  Hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours. Complete your storm preparations and leave the area if directed to do so by authorities.

 Coastal residents should form evacuation plans before a warning is issued to identify a safe shelter and a route to get there.  Stock up on emergency supplies including food, water, protective clothing, medications, batteries, flashlights, important documents, road maps, and a full tank of gasoline.
