2 Difficulties faced by African Americans After The Reconstruction Era There was actually a great amount of difficulties faced by African Americans during this period For Example, there was laws being made that didn’t quite help out the blacks Also around this era the Ku Klux Klan was starting to form A lot of things were promised to free blacks but after the assassination of President Lincoln it went downhill from there The freeman Bureau was actually closed and violence against blacks spread through the South

3 Important people after the Reconstruction Era Hiram Rhode Revels was the first African American senator John W. Menard of Louisiana was the first African American elected to U.S Congress Andrew Johnson was the vice president who took over office after President Lincoln was assassinated General Nathan Beford Forrest was the founder of the KKK

4 Laws that were created Jim Crow laws were created during the 1890s after reconstruction Under Chief Justice Melville Fuller, the Court established the separate- but-equal rule. In 1866, the Civil Rights Act was passed by Congress which outlined a number of civil liberties including the right to make contracts, own and sell property and receive equal treatment under the law.

5 Events April 15 1865 President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Vice president Andrew Johnson then became president July 19 1866 Black Codes were enacted November 20 1867 the first reconstruction act was passed
