6 Purpose & Priorities  Category A – Quality Enhancements  Enhance existing OST programming in one or more areas  Category B – Regional or Statewide Professional Development (PD)  Provide PD for OST program staff/providers  Category C –Service-Learning (SL) Curriculum Development  Develop, pilot and document SL curriculum for summer Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 6 An entity my submit an application under only ONE category!

7 Eligibility Massachusetts public school districts, non- public schools, and public and private community-based organizations with existing OST programs are eligible to apply for funding. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 7

8 Key Requirements Category A: Quality Enhancements  ~75-80% of grants awarded  Up to $20,000 per applicant (to support enhancements at one or more sites)  Implement quality enhancements that support identified needs or gaps in program services in one of quality criteria areas (see next slide).  Programs participating in the Department of Early Education and Care’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) are encouraged to propose quality enhancements that support advancement through QRIS. 9 Key Requirements Category A: Quality Enhancements  Areas for Quality Enhancements:  Comprehensive Academic and Non-Academic Programming  To provide a balance of meaningful and engaging activities that support youth’s overall development.  Partnerships  To collaboratively deliver effective services that provide continuity between the school day and OST  Serving Special Populations  To support inclusive programming for students with disabilities and students who are English Language Learners Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 9

10 Key Requirements Category A: Quality Enhancements  Areas for Quality Enhancements:  Family Involvement  To provide varied opportunities for families to be involved in their child’s OST programming  Highly Qualified Staff  To support hiring and ongoing PD to ensure high quality staff are offering quality OST programming  Evaluation Systems  To support continuous program improvement and demonstrate program effectiveness Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 10

11 Key Requirements Category A: continued  Utilize Department-sponsored program evaluation tools to support continuous improvement. (Training will be provided.)  Funds requested must be clearly linked to proposed program enhancements.  Funds may be used to support costs associated with additional high quality staff to enable more youth to be served in the program. 12 Key Requirements Category B: Regional or Statewide PD  ~5% of grants awarded  Up to $20,000 per applicant  Provide PD for OST programs that includes networking and is aligned to ESE’s high quality standards  Work with ESE to review OST PD needs, finalize offerings and distribute schedule/registration Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 12

13 Key Requirements Category C: SL Curriculum Development  ~15-20% of grants awarded  Up to $35,000 per applicant  Identify a team to participate in required training, develop/write, implement and document the curriculum.  Pilot the curriculum at an existing summer programs for a minimum of 25 hours over a minimum of 4 weeks. 14 Key Requirements Category C: continued  Work with ESE to document and submit curriculum developed for sharing.  Budget $7,500 ($5,000 school year / $2,500 summer) in the grant request to support required PD provided by the Department and its partners.  Includes: up to 7 days of PD and coaching, and support for documenting and publishing developed curricula. 20 Part III – Required Program Information: Category C **Reminders**  Significant time should be “budgeted” during the school year for participating with ESE and its partners in PD and coaching, AND for curriculum writing/development.  Be open to honing/adaption the curriculum focus upon award  Existing lessons/activities, etc. may be adapted/integrated into the developed curriculum (for which we will provide the framework!)
