Welcome to St. Peter! Today begins the greatest of all weeks: Holy Week. There is no better place to be than in God’s house to receive Jesus as our King as he arrives on the final leg of his mission to bring salvation to us sinners. God bless your worship today and all week.

Prayer before Worship Today we honor you as our King with joyful exuberance. But in reality, you are going forth to suffer the pangs of death for us. What wondrous love you have in becoming subject to the cross. It should not happen, but we are grateful it did because through you alone, we find forgiveness, peace, and heaven. To you we give all praise. Amen

Ride On, Ride On In Majesty CW #133 Verses 1-5 Text: Henry H. Milman, 1791-1868 Setting: WINCHESTER NEW Tune: Musicalisch Hand-Buch der Geistlichen Melodien, Hamburg, 1690, alt.

Verse 1: Ride on, ride on in majesty! Hark! All the tribes hosanna cry. O Savior meek, pursue your road, With palms and scattered garments strowed.

Verse 2: Ride on, ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die. O Christ, your triumphs now begin O'er captive death and conquered sin.

Verse 3: Ride on, ride on in majesty! The angel armies of the sky Look down with sad and wond'ring eyes To see th' approaching sacrifice.

Verse 4: Ride on, ride on in majesty! Your last and fiercest strife is nigh. The Father on his sapphire throne Awaits his own anointed Son.

Verse 5 (Please Rise): Ride on, ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die. Bow your meek head to mortal pain, Then take, O Christ, your power and reign.

Pastor: We worship together in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen.

Pastor: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you.

Pastor: As Christians, we trust Scripture as complete truth. God’s Word moves believers to take their sins to him by confessing them.

All: In Matthew chapter 3, verse 6, it says: “Confessing their sins, they were baptized by John in the Jordan River.”

All: In Acts chapter 19, verse 18, it says: “Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds.”

All: In James chapter 5, verse 16, it says: “Confess your sins to each other.”

Pastor: As believers in the Triune God, let us confess our sins to him.

All: For the times we have not welcomed you or your Word—and the times we have resisted it— Lord, have mercy on us.

All: When our mouths have not given true Hosannas, but have been muted and silent—Christ have mercy on us.

All: For all the moments we have been selfish and unwilling to spread our goods before you, unlike the people who placed their cloaks before you when you entered Jerusalem—Lord have mercy on us.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: God’s Word is truth. I am forgiven by his blood, and his child through baptism. God knows me by name and loves me. Hosanna in the highest!

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

God’s Word to His People Zechariah 9:9-10 Jesus is King to bring peace for our souls

Psalm #24 All Sing Refrain:

All Sing Verses: The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;

All Sing Verses: for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

All Sing Verses: Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?

All Sing Verses: He who has clean hands and a pure heart, he will receive blessing from God his Savior.

All Sing Refrain:

All Sing Verses: Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

All Sing Verses: Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

All Sing Verses: Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

All Sing Verses: Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty-he is the King of glory.

All Sing Verses: Glory be to the Father and to the Son And to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, Is now, and will be forever. Amen

All Sing Refrain:

God’s Word to His People Philippians 2:5-11 Christ’s humility is our rescue

Pastor: The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Verse of the Day

God’s Word to His People Luke 19:28-40 Our humble King comes in majesty to bring forgiveness and peace

The Explanation of the 2 nd Article of the Apostles’ Creed All: I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.

All: He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver,

All: but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

All: All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally.

All: This is most certainly true.

Children’s Message

No Tramp of Soldiers’ Marching Feet CWS #716 Verses 1-4 Text: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b. 1926 Setting: NO TRAMP OF SOLDIERS’ MARCHING FEET Tune: David W. Music, b. 1949

Verse 1: No tramp of soldiers’ marching feet With banners and with drums, No sound of music’s martial beat: “The King of glory comes!” To greet what pomp of kingly pride No bells in triumph ring, No city gates swing open wide: “Behold, behold your King!”

Verse 2: And yet he comes. The children cheer; With palms his path is strown. With ev’ry step the cross draws near: The King of glory’s throne. Astride a colt he passes by As loud hosannas ring, Or else the very stones would cry, “Behold, behold your King!”

Verse 3: What fading flow’rs his road adorn; The palms, how soon laid down! No bloom or leaf but only thorn The King of glory’s crown. The soldiers mock, the rabble cries. The streets with tumult ring, As Pilate to the mob replies, “Behold, behold your King!”

Verse 4: Now he who bore for mortals’ sake The cross and all its pains And chose a servant’s form to take, The King of glory reigns. Hosanna to the Savior’s name Till heaven’s rafters ring, And all the ransomed host proclaim, “Behold, behold your King!”

“Do You Hear What These Children Are Saying?” 1.Understand these wonderful things. 2.Join them in their song of praise

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Prayer of the Church

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

Hosanna, Loud Hosanna CW # 130 Verses 1-3 Text: Jeannette Threlfall, 1821-80 Setting: ELLACOMBE Tune: M. V. Werkmeister, Gesang-Buch der Herzogl, Hofkapelle, Württemberg, 1784, alt

Verse 1: Hosanna, loud hosanna, The little children sang; Through pillared court and temple The lovely anthem rang.

Verse 1: To Jesus, who had blessed them, Close folded to his breast, The children sang their praises, The simplest and the best.

Verse 2: From Olivet they followed Mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving And chanting clear and loud.

Verse 2: The Lord of saints and angels Rode on in lowly state Nor scorned that little children Should on his bidding wait.

Verse 3 (Please Rise): "Hosanna in the highest!" That ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, The Lord of heav'n, our King.

Verse 3: Oh, may we ever praise him With heart and life and voice And in his royal presence Eternally rejoice.

Closing Prayer Pastor: We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ. As he was acclaimed by those who scattered their garments and branches of palm in his path,

Closing Prayer Pastor: so may we always hail him as our King and follow him with perfect confidence; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. All: Amen.

God’s Blessing Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. All: Amen.

All Glory, Laud, and Honor CW #131 Verses 1&5 Text: Theodulf of Orléans, 760-821 Setting: VALET WILL ICH DIR GEBEN Tune: Melchior Teschner, 1584-1635, alt.

Verse 1: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. You are the King of Israel And David's royal Son, Now in the Lord's name coming, Our King and blessed one.

Verse 5: All glory, laud, and honor To you, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. As you received their praises, Accept the prayers we bring, O Source of ev'ry blessing, Our good and gracious King.
