T OM J ENKINS

TOM JENKINS INFORMATION  The below has been taken from Tom Jenkins’s website.  “For 25 years I have been all over the world covering sports events and personalities for The Guardian and Observer newspapers. My career highlights have probably been the six football World Cups and four summer Olympic Games I have shot, but my job has also taken me from Butlins Minehead for tug-of-war to horses racing on ice at St Moritz. If I had the talent, I would have been in front of the lens rather than behind it: as a child I was obsessed with sport, but my ability didn't match my enthusiasm. Learning and loving photography at school made me realise I could approach a career associated with sport from a different angle. I went to to the fantastic Documentary Photography course run by Magnum member David Hurn at Newport, South Wales. Leaving in 1989 I started to freelance for the agency Allsport and papers The Independent and Sunday Telegraph. Gradually in 1990 I managed to get more regular work for The Guardian and have been there ever since, adding The Observer when it was acquired in 1993.”

This is a landscape image of a footballer heading back inside after a match. The footballer is the main focus of this image as he is in the centre and the crowds arms act as leading lines pointing to him making him stand out more. The depth of field is a little shallow as towards the back for the crowd the people being to blur and their is a fast shutter speed for this image as all people have been captured mid motion.

This image has been taken clearly showing multiple people in mid motion. There is a deep focus in this image as the man in front is slightly blurred out were as the man in red towards the centre of the image is not, this give me the impression that he is one of the main focuses of the image as his face is shown clearly. Another focus of this image is the ball as the goalies arm are acting as leading lines pointing directly at them.

This is a landscape medium low angle image of a Paralympic runner caught in mid motion this shows that the shutter speed is fast as it does not show any blur of motion. The lighting for this photo is natural as it has been taken outside, however I feel it has been increase in editing. The man is in a few golden points following the rule of thirds making him the primary focus of the image. There is a deep depth of field in this image as everything is in focus and nothing is blurred out

This photo has been taken mid motion with out any blur this means that it has been taken with a fast shutter speed. The two main focuses of this image would be the man seemingly getting him and the ball as both are within the rule of thirds and both are pointed at by the leading line caused by the other guys leg. The depth of field in this photo is shallow as the people in the background are completely blurred out to draw more focus on the action in the image.

This is a photo of a cyclist, unlike the other images this photograph has a slow shutter speed. This is recognizable because the whole image shows the light traveling across the image cause sing the blurs that give the cyclist a fast and speedy effect. The cyclist himself is in a few golden point following the rule of thirds making him the main focus of the image.
