Our Unit on Dinosaurs And a visit to the Sam Noble Museum

A Note to Parents This class project was the result of a group effort. The students brainstormed ideas on a KWL Chart (Know, Want to Know, Learned). Their own words have been used to describe their experience. They typed in the words (over time) and I completed the design work. Enjoy!

What we know about dinosaurs Extinct Lived before us Lived over 100,000 years ago Some had short teeth, some had long Some had long necks Some had 5 horns Some were meat eaters, some plant eaters Some were tough Some had babies, some laid eggs

What we want to know Where are their bones Where did they lay eggs Where were they born Why do we use “saurus” and “tops” in their names What is a fossil

A Gallery of Photos Here are several photos that were taken on our trip to the Sam Noble Museum in Norman

Click on a picture to see it up close. When you are done, continue on with the presentation. Types of Dinosaurs

Some were plant eaters Back to Types of Dinosaurs Many plant eaters had horns and Frills. They used them for protection.

A Mammoth Back to Types of Dinosaurs The Mammoth was like a hairy elephant.

Here is a tiny dinosaur Back to Types of Dinosaurs Here is a little creature that was very tiny. It was one of the smallest dinosaurs in the museum

Some dinosaurs were fish Back to Types of Dinosaurs Actually, these prehistoric fish were not really dinosaurs. These fossils are as old as the dinosaurs.

Some were meat eaters Back to Types of Dinosaurs Most meat eaters had large hind legs and small front ‘arms.’

What we’ve learned There were many types of animals that lived back then Bigger than we thought Fossils are left from prehistoric things Some dinosaurs were very small (tiny) They don’t go to heaven They were more dangerous then I thought Some fish were really big People dig up their bones The eggs were bigger than chicken’s eggs

Even More… Meat eaters had little arms and big legs Plant eaters had four legs that were the same size Scientists say that a large meteor hit the earth and killed the dinosaurs by causing a cloud of dust to block the sun. The plants died and so did many of them. Saur – means ‘lizard’ Tops – means ‘head’
