Una adivinanza – A riddle What is once in a minute, twice in a moment, and never in a thousand years? La solución – The solution: The letter M.
Una receta de cocina – A Cooking Recipe: Yorkshire Pudding (1) Los ingredientes (para 4 personas) – The ingredients (for 4 persons): 3 oz (onza) = 75 g plain flour 1 egg 3 fl oz (onza líquida) = 75 ml milk 2 fl oz = 55 ml water 2 tablespoons beef dripping salt and freshly milled black pepper
Una receta de cocina – A Cooking Recipe: Yorkshire Pudding (2) La preparación – The preparation: Make up the batter by sifting the flour into a bowl and making a well in the centre. Break the egg into it and beat, gradually incorporating the flour, and then beat in the milk, 2 fl oz (50 ml) water and seasoning (an electric hand whisk will do this in seconds). There is no need to leave the batter to stand, so make it when you're ready to cook the pudding. About 15 minutes before the beef is due to come out of the oven, increase the heat to gas mark 7, 425°F (220°C), add the dripping to the roasting tin and place that on a baking sheet on a free shelf. After 15 minutes remove the meat, then place the tin over direct heat while you pour the batter into the sizzling hot fat. Return the tin to the baking sheet on the highest shelf (or, if you have roast potatoes on that one, the second highest). The pudding will take minutes to rise and become crisp and golden. Serve as soon as possible: if it has to wait around too long it loses its crunchiness.
Una ciudad – A town: Liverpool (1) Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough of Meyerside, England, along the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary. It was founded as a borough in 1207 and was granted city in Liverpool is the fourth largest city in the United Kingdom (third largest in England) and has a population of 435,500. History: The urbanisation and expansion of Liverpool were both largely brought about by the city's status as a major port. By the 18th century, trade from the West Indies, Ireland and mainland Europe coupled with close links with the Atlantic Slave Trade furthered the economic expansion of Liverpool. By the early 19th century, 40% of the world's trade passed through Liverpool's docks.
Una ciudad – A town: Liverpool (2) Something Special … Inhabitants of Liverpool are referred to as Liverpudlians, but are also colloquially known as Scousers, in reference to the local dish known as scouse, a form of stew. The word Scouse has also become synonymous with the Liverpool accent and dialect. Music Musicians from the city have produced 56 number one singles, more than any other city in the world. Both the most successful male band and girl group in global music history have contained Liverpudlian members. Liverpool is most famous as the birthplace of The Beatles and during the 1960s was at the forefront of the Beat Music movement.
