8 1: Always start with student objectives: What do our students need to be able to do? 2. Next, think about what resources might affect in-class direct instruction time in a more meaningful way? 3. What activities will improve their language skills grow?

15 Students had a lesson on “how-to” watch and listen to a French video. They had one practice session that was ungraded. Then in October 2014 they began to watch and listen. (Yes, they complained!) Since many of them were planning to travel to France with me during April vacation, however, I impressed upon them the importance of understanding spoken French. They slowly made progress throughout the year! They reached a 35% increase in their performance on listening comprehension tasks and a trend increase of about 25% with flipped activities! Students enthusiastically responded to lectures by native French speakers in places they had learned. Results of my flipped project
