3 INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL INDUSTRY Today the field of tourism and business travel is a globally interlinked economic sector. Although people travel all over the globe, there are few countries that own a far bigger share of the global inbound travel market.

7 FRANCE #FACTS France is a versatile location for touristic activities. The country remains one of the top travel locations as it offers beautiful cities like Paris and St. Tropez as well as mountains, hills and beaches. It’s economical position in the global market, being the 5th largest economy in the world, makes France an attractive business travel destination as well.

8 French is considered to be the language of romance in the English-speaking countries so naturally people want to visit the origin of the language – France. Outboud travel figures from France show that Spain (34%), Unted Kingdom (14%) and Germany (12%) are the most important destinations – all 3 are neighbouring countries of France. FRANCE #FACTS

9 The most important trade partner of France is Germany: It represents 17.1% of imports to France and 16.4% of exports. The main trade partners are represented clearly in the inboud travel figures: Beside Germany there are Belgium, Italy and the United Kingdom – the United States and China are mainly suppliers.

11 UNITED STATES #FACTS With 23% of the global nominal GDP the United States of America are by far the economically largest nation on the globe. The U.S. also hold the 3 rd rank in population and 4 th in size. All of those factors combined make it the number 2 for incoming travel in the world – a major destination for both business and leisure travel.

12 UNITED STATES #FACTS The most important trade partners of the United States are the neghbouring countries Mexico and Canada – and China (22% of imports). Those coutries are also strongly represented in the travel figures. The United States export (37%) and import (34.2%) mostly machines and transportation goods.

14 CHINA #FACTS The amount of travel to China has been increasing with its economical incline. For the past 20 years the Chinese GDP has been growing at an impressive rate, even through the global recession. So as China is becoming more and more global, it attracts tourism, due to the country’s rich history, as well as business travel.

15 CHINA #FACTS China is a unique case when it comes to travel figures: Due to the small distance Hong Kong outshines all other destinations with 46% of incoming and 8% of outgoing travelers. China is known for manufacturing goods. The country is the global leader in exports for electrical appliances.

17 SPAIN #FACTS The big cities of Spain, like Madrid and Barcelona, as well as the famous Spanish beaches are touristic centers – they draw in the leisure tourists. Especcially Barcelona is known by business travellers from all over the world due to the Mobile World Congress hosted there every year.

18 SPAIN #FACTS For Spain tourism is an important source of income, as it is responsible for 6.4% of the Spanish GDP. Spain is especcially a summer destiantion, with beautiful beaches. The main incoming travel destinations come to Spain for summer holidays.

20 GERMANY #FACTS Germany is the biggest economy in the EU and a reliable engine of growth for the region. As the globally 6 th most- visited country in 2012 Germany attracts both business and leisure travel. The nation’s export-oriented economical focus results in a heavily distributed list of countries regarding incoming travellers.

21 GERMANY #FACTS Germany has a quite diverse list of incoming travel destiantions – led by European countries and the United States. The biggest event in Germany is by far the Oktoberfest – with more than 6 million visitors.

23 UNITED KINGDOM #FACTS The United Kingdom is 7 th in total annual tourism globally. Due to London being one of the business hubs of the world, the UK draws in large amounts of business travellers. Numerous international corporations have their headquarters in or around London. Beside the business aspects London is a popular sight-seeing and shopping destination.

24 UNITED KINGDOM #FACTS The most valuable tourists for the United Kingdom are the visitors form the United States – they spent £ 2.1 billions in 2010. The top 3 most visited sights in all of the United Kingdom are in London: Tower of London, St. Paul‘s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

26 MALAYSIA #FACTS Malaysia is the 9 th most popular travel destination in 2012. With its capital Kuala Lumpur being the 6 th most visited city in the world, Malaysia’s role as a tourism destination becomes obvious. But also businesses travel to Malaysia, with the capital’s Petronas Twin Towers serving as a symbol of the fast-growing economy of the country.

27 The ecomomy of Malaysia has been growing by 6.5% for the last 50 years. For Malaysia tourism is an important source of income, as it is responsible for 7% of the GDP – it also helped the country to make it through the economical crisis in 2008 MALAYSIA #FACTS

29 AUSTRIA #FACTS Austria is 10 th in our global travel destination ranking. The country is a diverse tourism destination known for its skiing resorts in the Alps and popular amongst travelers all over the world. The capital Vienna as well as smaller cities like Salzburg or Graz have a rich history and are famous for music, art and architecture.

30 The ecomomy of Austria has historically always been highly dependent on Germany. This is reflected by the import/export rate from and to the big neighbour: 37% of imports and 28% of exports.
