By Alex Healy

 Mercury is the closest planet from the sun.  It takes Mercury 88 days to orbit the sun.  Many astronomers believe that Mercury might be the core of what was a much larger planet.  Because Mercury goes so quickly, the planet was called after a messenger of the Romans god

 Venus is the second planet from the sun  Venus is the brightest planet in our sky and can sometimes be seen with the naked eye if you know where to look  Venus orbits round the sun in 225 days  Venus is 67 million miles, or 108 million kilometres from the sun

 Earth is the third planet from the sun  It is the only planet on the solar system that has a life  It is the only planet that has liquid on its surface  Its the only planet that has atmosphere containing 21 percent oxygen

 Mars is the forth planet from the sun  Mars and Earth are similar in so many ways that its almost hard to believe we haven’t found any thing alive there  As result a typical year on Mars is one year and 320 days  Mars is home of the Olympus the largest volcano found in the solar system

 Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun  Jupiter has a diameter of 88,700 miles, or 142, 750 kilometres  Its about 483 million miles or777 million km from the sun  There are only 9 hours and 15 minutes in one day

 Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun  The rings were first seen by Galileo in 1610 through the telescope  Saturn as atleast 18 moons satellite which orbit round the planet attrasted to it by the planets gravity

 Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun  Uranus’ axis is at a 97 degree angle, meaning that it orbits lying on its side  Uranus has the second most complex set of rings in our solar system (Saturn has the most defined rings)

 Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun  Neptune was discovered in 1846.  In 2011 it finally made it's first lap around the sun since we discovered it -- because one Neptune year lasts 165 Earth years!

 We have reached the end of my Power Point  I hope you have enjoyed learning about the eight planets with me !!  Thank you for reading my Power Point!!  Written by Alex Healy
