5 Publicity ● Socorro – EDC, Mountain Mail, KMXQ – Flyers ● New Mexico – CAP squadrons – Airports: FBOs, Airport Managers – Organizations (EAA, Angel Flight) – NM Aviation Department

6 Preparations ● Cleanup Saturday, 11 October 0900 – Weeds, rocks, debris – NMT, FFA also helping – Pizza provided ● Setup Saturday, 18 October 0700 – Signs – PA system – Information/Recruiting booth – Other tasks

8 Our Functions During Event ● Information/Recruiting Booth ● Direct/assist general public – Guide them to event venues – Answer questions ● Assist visiting pilots – Give out tickets for free breakfast – Answer questions

9 Information/Recruiting Booth ● CAP Factsheet ● Recruiting materials ordered from NHQ ● Flyers (to be printed) ● Promote CAP to potential Seniors and Cadets ● Make general public aware of our services

10 Directing and Assisting ● Be familiar with airport layout, event venues ● Help promote safety, report hazards ● Greet visiting pilots, give breakfast tickets ● Assist organizers, staff as needed

11 Flight Line ● Safety, Safety, Safety! ● Orange Vests ● No hats, no salutes ● Beware of FOD ● Watch visitors! ● Be aware of security concerns

12 Flight Line Safety ● No saluting ● No smoking ● No running ● No horseplay ● No walking backwards

13 Visibility, Propellers ● Watch for taxiing aircraft ● Stay visible to the pilot ● Don’t let any part of aircraft pass over you ● Stay clear of front of aircraft ● Stay clear until prop stopped, door open ● Startups -- “Clear”

17 Warning Signs ● Rotating beacon or strobes on ● “Clear” ● Sound may not be good indicator ● Spinning prop hard to see ● Helicopter Rotors: Main & Tail ● ALL PROPELLERS ARE LIVE!!!

18 JET BLAST CHALLENGES  DO NOT WALK BEHIND aircraft with beacon flashing  AIRCRAFT SAFETY ZONES –Between 13 and 16 feet forward of engine inlet –Up to 100 feet to the rear of the aircraft –Powerful suction could pull people into inlet killing them instantly –Jet blast can exceed 300 mph

19 COMMON COURTESY Do not go on board aircraft unless invited to do so
