In the same divine service the chief apostle ordained Apostle NE Barnes as his successor. Apostle J Kriel and Bishop A Kriel were also ordained on the same occasion. 1996

The divine service took place in Silvertown and District Apostle Barnes was accompanied by Apostle V. Kϋhnle from Germany. Young people from Namibia, Northern and Eastern Cape attended. After the divine service there was a youth free meeting in San Remo, Strandfontein. 1997

Upon completion of the divine service the approximately 12 000 young people who were present gathered on the adjacent field and formed the New Apostolic Church emblem. A year’s supply of sugar and R 50 000 was donated to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital. 1998

Present at this gathering was the then Deputy President Thabo Mbeki who had come specifically to hear the male choir sing a revised version of the National Anthem composed by one of our brothers. 1998

During the Saturday and the Sunday four divine services for the children were held. As a visual aid for the sermon a huge functioning water wheel was constructed behind the altar. Our children at this gathering secured a place in the Guinness Book of Records by forming the largest orchestra of recorders to play a musical piece together. 1999

20 New Apostolic Church Cape Looking back | 20 years of blessing - Part 1 | … Dedication Tafelsig church On 20 June 1999 District Apostle Barnes dedicated the Tafelsig Church, which to this day is a landmark in the New Apostolic Church. Since 1980 over 4 000 members had moved into the suburb of Tafelsig and they used school halls and houses as places of worship. The construction of the church also benefitted the local communities as workers from the area were employed to do the construction work. Chief Apostle Fehr held the year-end divine service for 1999 in this church. 1999

In total more than 145,000 members were audio- visually connected to this service. 2000

A truck load of maize – a donation to the people of the Eastern Cape – formed part of the altar decoration. The divine service with District Apostle N Barnes took place in the City Hall, East London. The theme was all about Joseph and his coat of many colours. 2000

36 New Apostolic Church Cape Looking back | 20 years of blessing - Part 1 | … Youth on the Move In April 6 200 young people gathered in the Bellville Velodrome for a divine service with District Apostle Barnes. 259 stations were connected to the venue. For the first time the District Apostle was able to call on the then Bishop Arendse to assist with the serving while he was in a different venue, namely, the Cape Town Civic Centre. The District Apostle also called on Bishop Nel who was in the Orient Theatre in East London. 2001

After using school halls and finally the Naval College Chapel the congregation after several decades has its own place of worship. The church is a modern and versatile building which can be converted into a venue for activities other than divine services. 2002

The topic of leadership skills was addressed. The week-end was concluded with a divine service held by District Apostle Barnes in Despatch. 2002

This coincided with the celebration of Thanksgiving. This festive occasion was celebrated with a divine service in Tafelsig. In this service he retires Apostles Clingen, Hendricks and Marema (NAC-SEA) and ordains Apostles Arendse and Mintoor and Bishops James, Joubert (NAC-SEA), Thompson and Witten 2003

On the Saturday Bishop November presented the Foundation for Alcohol Related Research with a donation of R10 000. The divine service held by Apostle M Arendse took place in the Town Hall. District Apostle Barnes could not be present because he attended the funeral of the retired District Apostle M Kraus. 2003
