2 What is Talent Match? £100million Big Lottery Funded Young People’s employment initiative Aimed at finding creative ways to support long term unemployed 18- 24 year olds into ‘meaningful’ employment/self-employment based on individual skills, and desires 21 Talent Match programmes operating nationally Projects range from 1-5 years, and up to approximately £8million per programme Designed to complement existing local provision and fill identified gaps in current services

3 Programme Outcomes Improved confidence, optimism and support Young people secure employment/self employment Young people enter suitable training/education Improved and co-ordinated local pathways to get young people into positive economic activity Improved access to better quality local employment and training Increased partnerships between employers, agencies and VCS organisations More employers provide meaningful, supported employment opportunities for young people Enhanced evidence of the nature, circumstances and patterns of youth unemployment, including a shared data source to track and measure the impact of interventions.

4 Talent Match in D2N2 £6.2million Secured Support young people from the 27 most adversely affected wards in D2N2 (Those with at least double the national average rate of long term youth unemployment) Developed in partnership with young people and representatives from voluntary sector, statutory organisations and private businesses Particular focus on supporting those young people remaining unemployed post work programme Mentor led support delivered through 4 geographic ‘Hub’ organisations Individual package of support to include interventions from ‘approved providers’ Personal budget of over £1900 per young person Interventions delivered to over 300 young people per year

5 Why are We Different? By young people – For young people (Young People are the decision makers) Flexible, individual support through cycles of change Project management structure – young people form a majority of representatives on commissioning, project management, and executive boards By year 3, 80% of roles created by Talent Match to be held by young people Specific resource and structure to ensure young people from all wards have input into project management processes, and can feed back their experiences/expectations Flexible commissioning process allowing the range of suppliers and interventions to change, reflective of need, and intelligence

6 Where We Are Now Commissioning panel formed and ‘Hub’ commissioning under way Database, systems, and monitoring tools in later stages of development Staff team recruited Expressions of interest welcomed from potential delivery partners seeking to deliver interventions to young people National Launch of Talent Match 22 January 2014 Local Launch of ‘Young and Successful’ mid-March 2014 First cohorts of beneficiaries identified, and entering the programme April 2014
