In what way does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? When looking at the mast head of my magazine cover I see that is stands out and is very bold. In a shop, people would easily be able to identify the magazine. My mast head (along with the rest of the text) is in the font “ Agency FB” which is very unique as it is a very tall standing font, it is both formal and stylish and it is readable which is most important. Looking the other two examples of mast heads from different magazines we can see their fonts represent their magazine style. For example “Kerrang” shows us that they are about mostly rock music. My magazine is more of a magazine that tells us about music and specific artists, not just music in general. For example my magazine aspects are focussed on one artist and their career involving mostly music but other things as well. My magazine puts forward the impression that it is only information based which is what it is. In my magazine you can find information on this artist and a double paged spread of an exclusive interview including information about her new music and other aspects of music and the life of a celebrity. Overall I think my front cover is very effective with the glamorous shot of the artist with a bold title and interesting decorative uses.

My contents page consists of three photographs. Each of these photographs is placed next to each part of the magazine on the artist. Doing this makes the contents page look more structured and more neat. These three photographs of the model are all quite different. The first photo is a very naturally posed yet glamorous photograph. The second photograph is a natural photo of the artist/model smiling. Finally the final photograph is very posed and very dramatic. Using these three photographs together shows different sides the the artists personality making the magazine look more interesting to the reader. The title on this page is the same font as the cover title, however the font is less bold and is a smaller size. I did this to detract from the front cover making it less important. I have included a thick black border around the page to act as a decoration and to make the page look less bare. This includes all of the information inside the box. The use of this border links to the idea of my page looking neat and well structured.

This is my Double Page Spread, this is an interview with the chosen artist. She speaks about her music and her life as a celebrity. I think this page works in my music magazine. Even though it has a basic layout including quite flat colours like black and white, it shows who the main focus is with the large A4 photograph on the left and the interview about the music artist on the right. When reading this article it states something about music in every answer and it clearly focused on the music the artist is creating. My font is the same font as the rest of the magazine. It is the main theme font overall because it is very readable. Also I have the logo of the magazine in the bottom right hand corner of the right page as a design accessory to make the page look more interesting. On the left hand side of the page I have the artists name in extremely large font, this is to identify the artist and also below where it says “Exclusive Interview” is to identify what the double page spread is about. This page is actually quite basic and if I were to do this again I would step out of my comfort zone and include some more bright and interesting colours and possible some interesting decorative features. Overall I think the information and different questions and answers and the large and hard hitting photography make for an effective double page spread. Double Page Spread

How does your media product represent particular social groups? My product represents particular social groups because of the music it advertises. For example my magazine advertises music from the charts so the social group my product is aimed at is teenagers. Older people from the age of 40+ don’t usually listen to the charts so my magazine attracted the younger social groups. When looking at the type of artist that I have used to put in my magazine you can see that the older generation ad mature adults cannot relate to this kind of youth. This magazine is a magazine for both male and female. Inside my magazine there are not any references to the music or artist being intended for a specific gender. The music in the charts also is very unisex and appeals to both genders equally. The music in the charts usually represents the youth. For example artists like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj or Ariana Grande don ’ t appeal to the older audience because of the things they sing about. Most of the things they sing about are things like money, sex and drinking. Things like this are not appealing to the older generation’s ear. This is why my magazine fits with the younger social group because it is about music that the teenage youth will listen to all day everyday.

Who would be the audience for your media product? As I have stated the audience for my media product is the age range of 15-25. When looking at the work I have produced and my final product I feel like it reflects my target audience positively. I have a lot of mature questions and text in my magazine, I have included serious topics and information about the artist for the older readers of the magazine and her career however I have also included some glamorous photos for the younger readers to look at and to admire. In my planning stage I intended for my audience to be mostly younger (teenage) viewers, however while doing my research and actually making my product I got and understanding of the music in the charts and discovered that this kind of music was aimed and was listened to by the teenage age range. Therefore I decided to use the music aimed and teenagers but use content in the magazine that is more about the industry and the actual artists career to attract young adults and introduce them to the chart music. This widens the age interest and makes the music more well known.

How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted my audience with the use of images of an attractive person on the cover and inside the magazine. On many magazines in the media at the moment, almost all of them have attractive people on the cover and inside the magazine to attract the audience into wanting to read them. In my media product for example, I have used the artist on the cover looking glamorous. This is to attract the younger audience of both genders. The male gender may want to read this magazine because of the attractive female and the female gender may aspire to look like this artist. Also by putting the artist on the cover it attracts to audience to want to learn about the new music this artist is bringing out, also the audience could be interested in learning about what kind of music the artist makes if they are not already aware of the artist in the first place.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? In this project I learned a lot about the software Adobe InDesign and the software Adobe Photoshop. I learned how to use certain tools and techniques in these software’s to create my product. For example in Adobe Photoshop I have learned to use things like shapes and text and also the manipulation of photographs. This was really useful to make my product and it made my photographs look very professional and of high quality. These technologies have benefitted my knowledge on making the product and I will definitely use these software program's in the future when possibly making other products.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? During the process of making this magazine I have learnt a lot about the product. I have learnt a lot about things that are put in magazines and things that are needed to be done to make a successful magazine. I learnt a lot from doing all the research and interviews and surveys etc. I feel in my final product I have improved my knowledge about the entire topic and have broadened my interest with magazines. I feel that I have been able to research an learn about aspects of magazines that I didn’t know existed and I have learnt so much about the industry.
