There are many a times when we think of corporal punishment. As a teacher of English, we are to face many areas where our students need to work a lot. Daily we see that some of them have poor handwriting, spelling mistakes, incorrect pronunciation, hesitation or complete failure in speaking, incomplete homework and most of all students on leave. Some students are not able even to differentiate in various formats of writing skills as letter or report and so on. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Punishment is the practice of imposing something negative or unpleasant onunpleasant a person or animal or property, usually in response to disobedience, defiance, or behavior deemed morally wrong by individual, governmental, or religious principles. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

School punishment is a system of penalties used to punish indiscipline in a school setting. There are wide variations in practice between schools in different cultures, countries or states, and between different types of school in the same country. Nevertheless, there are certain near- universal punishments, ranging from verbal reprimands to ultimate expulsion from the institution. In many cultures nowadays, school punishment and discipline in general are hotly debated, but individual cases usually become known about to the outside world only when parents complain that punishment is too harsh. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Positive Discipline (or PD) is a discipline system used by schools that focuses on the positive points of behaviour. Some practitioners believe that educators/teachers should act with a philosophy that there are no bad children, just good and bad behaviors. You can teach and reinforce the good behaviors while sweeping out the bad behaviors without hurting the child verbally or physically. Positive discipline includes a number of different techniques that, used in combination, can lead to a more effective way to manage groups of students. good and bad pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Five criteria Effective positive discipline: Helps children feel a sense of connection. (Belonging and significance) Is mutually respectful and encouraging. (Kind and firm at the same time.) Is effective long - term. (Considers what the child is thinking, feeling, learning, and deciding about himself and his world – and what to do in the future to survive or to thrive.) Teaches important social and life skills. (Respect, concern for others, problem solving, and cooperation as well as the skills to contribute to the home, school or larger community.)life skills problem solving Invites children to discover how capable they are. (Encourages the constructive use of personal power and autonomy.) pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a form of child discipline that is a proactive and positive approach used by staff, parents and community agencies to promote successful behavior and learning at home and at school for all students. PBS supports the acquisition of replacement behaviors, a reduction of crisis intervention, the appreciation of individual differences, strategies for self control, and durable improvement in the quality of life for all. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Some very practical solutions* Poor handwriting We are very much concerned about the poor handwriting Of our students. We regularly put a note in the notebook of the student. We always tell him/her to improve it. Even Sometimes we assign some extra work. Yet we are hopeless that its not improving. We find that under pressure the handwriting comes to its true self. Not of the students only, ours too. Solution is to give them ample practice in cursive writing and teach them the proper strokes. Most important….. Be patient… it takes time……… pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Spelling mistakes: Its common even with teachers. It is very important to know the correct spelling of the word. To improve Spelling we need to grow a very good habit among our students and that is to consult the dictionary. Consulting dictionary is more than a skill. Make the students Familiar with various kinds of dictionaries and how to use them With a wide range of understanding. Five time or ten time rewriting the word is also good. Better prepare some exercises related to commonly misspelled words. Spelling quiz and crossword puzzles are also very helpful. A habit to recheck the work done should be developed. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

incorrect pronunciation, hesitation or complete failure in speaking This is the part most worried about now a days. Very simple and effective solution is to provide opportunity to those students who are not good at it. Be patient. Learning a language is not one day wonder. You all know. Now let us believe it. Select and organize the vocabulary you want to give practice. You will find it works. Watching TV and listening to radio may prove a good source. The best thing is use handy resources. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

incomplete homework As far as assignments are concerned we see that some of the students Always feel at loss at the end of the class when teacher is about to leave the class some faces look worried. You know why???? Because they know that now it is their turn to do something. The teacher is about to assign some work. Therefore get the work half done in the class. Give proper resources from where they can complete the assignment. Best thing is to ask them to do the assignment in groups. Formation of group should be done carefully. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

Proper checking of given work is very very necessary. First of all ensure that all have completed it. All the assignments should be collected and checked. The assignment should be relevant to their life and context. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh

In the changing times we need to be ready to face The reality. We are amid the crisis where IQ and SQ and EQ Need to be cared for. Children are very sensitive and need proper caring. Education is making behavioral changes. It should be done taking help of constructive punishment. pankaj kumar, jnv pallu, hanumangarh
