Literal The answer to these questions are easily found in the book. ∆ What was the weather like on Sam’s birthday? It was a cold stormy day. Deductive inferences The answer to these questions requires more thinking to find the answer. The children need to look for clues within the text or find evidence that supports their answer. ∆ How was Alison feeling after her sister left? I think she was really sad because It says her eyes filled with tears and she sat down with a sigh. Inductive inferences The answer to these questions are based on what you think because of your prior knowledge. It can come from what you know, what you have read or what you have seen before. ∆ Why do you think girl didn’t want to open the door? I think she was scared because its scary when you didn’t know what’s there. Questioning
