Why multi-stakeholder platforms for innovation? 1.Different stakeholder groups provide various insights about the biophysical, technological and institutional dimensions of the problem, and what type of innovations are technically feasible, economically viable, and social-culturally and politically acceptable 2.Stakeholder groups become aware of their fundamental interdependencies and the need for collective action to address their constraints 3.Stakeholder groups are more likely to support specific solutions when they have been part of the decision- making process

Role-play starting point This is the first platform meeting The objective is to discuss the future of the forest with the stakeholders The facilitator is supposed to lead the meeting In some groups not all roles will be represented. In other groups there may be more than one farmer represented We will have two platform meetings of 20 minutes

12. Between first and second meeting Between the first and the second platform meeting/ session a scientific research report has been published by ICRAF. The ICRAF report includes a cost-benefit analysis that concludes that sustainable rubber production is most beneficial for the region A second platform is organised to discuss this with platform members
