8 What do examiners want? Clear, concise, answers - structure Quality not quantity Key words in question – examine, describe, explain Make sure you are answering the question Discussion afterwards not always good idea Move on!

10 How do you get to university? Apply beginning of Y13 Need A Levels or equivalent Work experience Choices you make in sixth form or college will affect what you can apply for at uni

11 How do you choose a course? What are you good at? What do you enjoy? 40,000+ courses to choose from 300+ places to study them in Do you need a course for a career? Strong competition for places GCSE results important

12 How do you choose a university? Live at home/away? Academic success of department Employment record Staff Facilities Feel of the place

13 What about the fees? Tuition fees – can borrow money and pay back later Loans and grants to help you with living costs Pay money back according to income after uni, doesn’t matter how much you owe – just like a tax Scholarships and sponsorship If you really want to go, fees shouldn’t get in the way

14 Life at uni Very different to school – much more independent No reports sent home Up to you to do work and turn up on time Might live away from home – shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry Can live at home – lots of people do Lectures, seminars, tutorials, group work What you make it!
