2 AFPC 4 AFPC is an association of faculties of pharmacy whose members are committed to the promotion and recognition of excellence in pharmacy education and scholarly activities

3 AFPC 4 Canadian Faculties of Pharmacy –University of Alberta, Edmonton –University of British Columbia, Vancouver –Dalhousie University, Halifax –Universite Laval, Quebec City –University of Manitoba, Winnipeg –Memorial University, St. John’s –Universite de Montreal, Montreal –University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon –University of Toronto, Toronto

4 AFPC MEMBERSHIP 4 AFPC active membership includes all faculty members who have >0.2FTE on one of the nine faculties of pharmacy 4 250 active members 4 Each School is assessed a faculty fee which includes a basic fee plus prorated portion based on the admission enrolment 4 Faculty members do not pay a membership fee

5 AFPC ORGANIZATION 4 Nine Council Members - elected by active members in each faculty 4 Executive –President, President Elect, Past President and representative of Deans of Pharmacy –Executive Director (0.5 FTE staff)

6 AFPC MEETINGS 4 NATIONAL CONFERENCE - May or June –meetings with pharmacists association or clinical pharmacy organization (rotate) –focus of conference - enhance teaching methods, recognition of member accomplishments, representation of pharmacy education in national issues, promotion of pharmacy practice research

7 AFPC COUNCIL MEETINGS 4 CONDUCT AFFAIRS OF ORGANIZATION AND COLLABORATE WITH OTHER NATIONAL PHARMACY ORGANIZATIONS 4 MEET TWICE PER YEAR –During Annual Meeting –Mid-Year Meeting in Ottawa (national capital)

8 INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES 4 Maintain a good relationship with AACP with many of our members belong to AACP and attend AACP meetings 4 AFPC has no formal association with any international association but many members belong to FIP 4 Laval and Montreal faculties have formal relationships with French speaking schools of pharmacy

9 CURRENT ISSUES 4 Submission to the National Commission on Health Care 4 Task Force on Experiential Education 4 Pharmacy Program Evaluation/Assessment 4 Entry Level Pharm.D. 4 Enhancing Problem Based Learning 4 Continuing Competence

10 FUTURE PAN AMERICAN PHARMACY EDUCATION ORGANIZATION? 4 AFPC is interested in enhancing pharmacy education in the America’s 4 Is it preferable to develop an umbrella organization or put our efforts to improve pharmacy education and pharmacy education organizations within each country in the region?
