Warm Up Sit where you will learn best. I will rearrange as needed Complete the handout on front desk

Unit 10 – Surface Area and Volume Thurs 12/13 = 10.1 and 10.3 Nets/Polyhedron/Surface area of prisms and cylinders Fri 12/14 = 10.4 Surface area of pyramids and cones Mon 12/17 = Quiz! 10.5 and 10.6 Volume (prisms, cylinders, pyramids, and cones)

Today’s Objective Students will be able to recognize nets of space figures. Students will be able to find the surface area of 3-D figures

Definitions Polyhedron – a 3-D figure whose surfaces are polygons (flat) Each polygon is called a FACE. An EGDE is where 2 faces meet. A VERTEX is where 3 or more edges meet.

Identifying Nets of Polyhedrons Definition: A Net is a two-dimensional pattern that can be folded into a 3-D figure Looking at your handout, predict what the three-dimensional solid formed by this net will look like. Assume the shaded squares make up the base (or bottom) of the solid.

Net Example What 3D figure does this net represent?

Ex. Draw and label a net for the following figure with correct measures \ There are many possible nets!

Prisms Definition: A Prism is a polyhedron with exactly two congruent, parallel faces, called bases. – Lateral Faces – faces that are not the bases. – Altitude – height of prism ( to both bases) – Lateral Area – sum of the lateral faces – Surface Area – sum of lateral area AND areas of bases

Prisms

Ex 1: Find the lateral Area LA = sum of areas of rectangles (non-bases) OR LA = p*h (perimeter of base*height of prism)

Ex 2: Find the surface Area SA = ph+ 2B (LA+ 2*Area of Base)

Ex 3: Find the Lateral Area

Ex 4: Find the Surface Area

Ex 5: Find the Lateral Area

Ex 6: Surface Area

Cylinder: Like a prism, but has circular bases Ex 7: Lateral Area = Ch = 2πr*h

Ex 8: Surface Area = 2πr*h + 2πr 2

Ex 9: Lateral Area

Ex 10: Surface Area
