3 FAQ – WHAT ARE THE GRADING POLICIES? Classwork is expected to be turned in that day in order to receive credit for an assignment. All graded assignments and tests will be placed in the portfolio folders and these folders will be handed back to them at the end of the year. During the first nine weeks students will answer the following Essential Questions through reading and analyzing various texts:  How are we intertwined with nature and how do we affect it as much as it affects us?  How do successful writers analyze and organize information from various informational texts to write informative essays? 1 st 9 Weeks

During the fourth nine weeks students will answer the following Essential Questions through reading and analyzing various texts:  In what ways do we interact with other people – family, enemies, neighbors, strangers?  How does a personal narrative reflect the writer’s experiences, feelings, and personality? 4 th 9 Weeks

Targeted Skills:  Previewing the text  Main Idea and Author’s Purpose  Figurative Language and Sensory Imagery  Complex Character Development  Literary and Informational Text Marking  Citing Strong Textual Evidence to Support Analysis  Literary Analysis (tone, theme, symbolism, repetition, etc.)  Effectively Participating in Collaborative Discussions 4 th 9 Weeks
