2.  The differences between mainstream and independent film are clear. For example mainstream films have a medium to high budget, where as independent films have a low budget. Independent films cast new, emerging talent, where mainstream films cast well known stars. For example, Jude Law in Repo men and Kev Ishimwe in ours. Mainstream films genres and content attract a wide mainstream audience, whereas indie films attract niche audiences.

3.  Regarding special effects mainstream films have the ability and finances to have big, incredible special effects. Indie films don’t he option to do this. Character and narrative drives the film. Mainstream films production values are high. Indie films production values reflect low budget. The mainstream film enjoy the benefits of high profile marketing campaigns. They have the ability to have trailers, billboards, posters and large viral campaigns. Small indie films only get small marketing campaigns like viral marketing websites and niche media texts.  Small independent distributers include Optimum. Who distributed Kill list. Lionsgate who distributed The Holding and Revolver who did kidulthood. Whereas big mainstream companies include Universal and paramount, who distributed Shutter Island and New line cinema who did Se7en.

4.  Our film is an independent, low budget film. Our distribution company is film4. We choose film4 because they have worked on small budget films and thrillers. They distributed Safe house, which is similar to our film because it involves a kidnapping and 4.3.2.1 which is set in an urban city and about violence and crime.

5. However our film is different to a lot of the films they have distributed. This is because they have distributed some high budget action films. If we compare “Repo men” and our film, the similarities and differences become clear. They’re both thrillers, but Repo men is an action thriller hybrid. Our films theme is based upon revenge, whereas Repo men is based upon repossession. Their narrative is a fictional story, just like ours is. They have two main characters, similar to our film. Their budget was high compared to our low budget film.

6.  Our film will be shown at small local house cinemas. Such as the duke of York cinema and Art house. As well as small independent film festivals. Kidulthood made £100,000 opening weekend. Therefore we predict our film to do £50,000.
