7 “Take what you want, Eat what you take”  Students encourage others to make healthy choices and remind them to reduce waste by not to taking more than they can eat.

10 Hand Washing & Paper Towel Rule  Use only one squirt of soap to wash your hands.  Measure paper towel from your elbow to your hand to reduce waste.

11 Watt Watchers This program monitors energy usage throughout the building. This program monitors energy usage throughout the building.  Students attended the the NCCE conference in 2002 to present watt watcher findings.  They continue to support energy reduction by offering suggestions such as using only the center bank of lights in the classroom. This reduces energy consumption by 77%.

13 Over 100 students participate in “Walk, Roll or Bike to School” and REDUCE the use of fossil fuels and emissions into the air. They can earn a “Using Resources Wisely” t-shirt for their earth friendly transportation choices!

16 Reuse It Center  We have book exchanges during the year. Turn in your old book in exchange for a book you have not read.

17 Reuse it Basket  We have Reuse Paper on Second side containers and reuse the paper for Accelerated Math.  We use the second side of paper for practice sheets or scratch paper.

18  RECYCLE Think before and after you purchase

19 Purchase products that are made from post consumer recycled content. That means they are made from materials that have been recycled. This reduces the amount of additional natural resources used to make or package the item. This is called “closing the loop”. Look for these signs: Buy Recycled

20 Recycle Center Team  Classroom teams ensure that all recyclables after lunch are clean and ready to be processed.

21 Recycle Crayons  We melt old broken crayons to make new ones in the Crayola machine or create specialty gift crayons by melting and pouring into molds.

22 We recycle our inkjets, cell phones, laptops and more... Ask us about “Cartridges for Kids”

23 Recycle Tennis Shoes  We collect your old tennis shoes to send to NIKE to recycle them.  Nike makes playground surfaces, tracks and courts out of the ground up shoes.

24 Recycle Report  Classroom monitors evaluate and report recycling scores.

25 Recycle Form  The kids fill out this form to report classroom participation in recycling.

27 Recycling around the school  The fifth graders participate in recycling paper throughout the school. Second grade recovers our aluminum cans.

34  Reject Think Earth First Think Earth First in all your actions and choices inside and outside your school or home. Ask about our “Naturescaping Your Schoolyard” show.

36 BE EARTH FRIENDLY!  Reject items or practices that hurt the earth. “Re- THINK” - Before you purchase products or services, think about how products are made or how the service is delivered - the energy costs, natural resource costs AND the waste stream at the end of usefulness.

37  REACT Become proactive

38 Letters  The kids write letters to companies that are being environmentally friendly as well as the ones who are not.

39 Down By The Riverside  Our conservation ethic results in protection of and includes direct stewardship of our environment.
