2 NMSU Astronomy 10 Tenure track faculty: 2 newest members work in solar physics (+2 planetary + 6 other) – James McAteer – Jason Jackiewicz 30 graduate students: 3 of 5 incoming students expressed interest in solar Member of Astrophysical Research Corporation (ARC) that runs 3.5m and SDSS at APO; NMSU also operates a 1m at APO “Operates” APO for ARC

3 NMSU interest Scientific: support development of solar program at NMSU Educational: student training and site visit Instrumentation: cross-disciplinary opportunities Outreach University administration has expressed interest

4 APO/ARC interests Water Aluminization Visitor center Housing

5 Programmatics NMSU operates APO, might be interested in extending to Sunspot operations; possible economies of scale with shared personnel/management NMSU probably not in position to supply operations funding NMSU probably not interested in site ownership
