5 Leonardo da Vinci Born in Vinci, Italy and moved to Florence at age 12 Studied astronomy, anatomy, engineering, mathematics, and architecture Most famous for his artwork. He was a sculptor and a painter.

6 Leonardo da Vinci Invented and designed hundreds of machines – Although he never created working versions of his designs, many people believe that his sketches are early versions of armored tanks, airplanes, and helicopters. Leonardo is also known for his advancements in knowledge of the human body (anatomy)

8 Michelangelo Lived in Florence, Italy and worked for the Medici Family and the Catholic Church – He painted the Sistine Chapel that tells the story of the Old Testament – The Pope lives at the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City One of the most influential artists of the Renaissance. He was also a painter and a sculptor.

15 Jan van Eyck Born in what is today Belgium around 1395 Many argue whether van Eyck’s works were painted by him or his brother, Hubert.

16 Jan van Eyck Worked in the newly developing technique of oil painting. – Oil dried more slowly than other paints, which allowed artists to work on specific sections for a longer time and create more detail. – This helped van Eyck achieve the realism for which his work is known.
