4-17 – Jeff Larson Don Johnson Welcome everyone to the 2012 school night training. Introduce people doing presentations that night. Open with and inspiring message as to why we are here. Help get more youth involved in Scouting. Help support units in their recruitment efforts. Introduce Ray Szpiech, council commissioner Pack 321

Develops leadership skills and teaches duty to God & country, others and yourself Develops personal confidence and self-worth Utilizes activities designed to prepare boys to make ethical choices and strive to achieve their full potential Is about doing your best

7 The Cub Scout Organization
The Pack… Is a group of boys in grades 1 thru 5 and their adult leadership Is sponsored by a Chartered Organization (Beechview PTA) Is divided into “Dens” which consist of 6-10 boys in the same grade level, and their adult leaders

8 Cub Scout Organization
Dens are organized by Rank based on age Ranks are… Tiger ( 7 years old or 1st grade ) Wolf ( 8 years old or 2nd grade ) Bear ( 9 years old or 3rd grade ) Webelos ( 10 years old or 4th & 5th grades ) All Scout Activities are age-appropriate

9 Volunteerism at its Best
Parents are the major source of Scout leadership Scouting is designed to help even the busiest parent get involved Parents should participate in and encourage their boys in their advancement Allows you to teach by example and impact quality time with your son

Training is offered to ensure a quality program and to keep our boys safe Learn how to keep den meetings fun and exciting as well as to identify available resources

12 When do we meet? Pack Meetings Den Meetings Other activities
Held once per month, mostly on Tuesdays, but sometimes on weekends depending on the Pack Activity. Weekly or bi-weekly meetings may be needed to complete the activities for a cub scout Rank. This is decided by the Den Leader & Den Parents. Special Pack activities may include overnight stays. Council Sponsored events are mostly on weekends. 16 Boys’ Life Magazine Official magazine of the BSA with over 1.3 million subscribers Order through the Pack and you will receive the Cub Scout edition Boys‘ Life is $1 per month and delivered to your home

17 Powered by Popcorn Most Scouting Units & our BSA Council are funded by popcorn We normally have only one fundraiser to raise all of the money to run our Pack for the year Selling popcorn is key to giving us the opportunity to run a great cub scout program 17

18 The Process… Step 1 Complete an application for your son Step 2
Complete a Leaders Application (Adult Leaders must also complete Youth Protection Training & Leader Position Specific Training.) We also have many small volunteer jobs that we need help with. Step 3 Hand your paperwork and fees in tonight
