OC Team Ops Notes

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 2 What are Ops Notes? Ops notes are the OC team’s (OC, Paycom, PRO, CPO) method of documenting pre-flight problem reports and on- orbit anomalies and their associated workarounds Ops notes cover: –system workarounds –EXPRESS Rack workarounds –payload (subrack or facility) workarounds –International Partner payload workarounds –Ground System workarounds

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 3 How are they developed? KSC testing – PR’s and IPR’s generated during stand- alone and integrated ops testing in PRCU or PTCS Development inputs – JSC, EXPRESS, and PD’s provide inputs for known problems, limitations, or features Equipment degradation or failure documented by Payload Anomaly Reports (PAR) Simulations and ground system tests

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 4 Ops Note Form

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 5 Ops Notes Naming Convention ON – Designates this is an ops note Payload/system – designates the payload and or system affected. For I2 this is EHS, EXPRESS, HRF, PLDs, ADVASC, CGBA, CPCG, MAMS, SAMS, STES9, STES10, TCS, EPS, ECLSS, PLMDM Category – Electrical (ELE), Fluids (FLD), Hardware (HW), Mechanical (MECH), Software (SW), ISS Systems (ISS), Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Number – Automatically assigned in database Example: ON-EXPRESS-SW-4

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 6 Where do we stand now? At the current time we have 54 ops notes written –39 Software –6 Ground Support Equipment –5 Hardware –3 Fluids –1 Electrical

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 7 Ops Note Maintenance PSE will maintain database Life of Ops notes may be: –Permanent –Increment/Flight specific –Closed Once an Ops note is closed it will be archived Ops notes will be viewable on the RICO webpage under “real-time products”

Increment 2 Specific Ops Notes

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 11 Low Rate Telemetry ON-PLD-SW-1 Affects – All Plds and Racks Description of Problem – If too much data is sent down the low rate path, the RIC will be unable to keep up and will eventually crash. Description of workaround – Payload telemetry will only be sent down the low rate path in the event of a loss of both high and medium rate data paths. At that time payload priorities will need to be discussed, and one payload’s data at a time will be sent down low rate and monitored carefully by the PRO.

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 12 RIC Reboots ON-EXPRESS-SW-4 Affects – All EXPRESS Racks Description of Problem – In order to command a RIC reboot from the ground all payloads must be off and the rack in standby mode. In addition, the RIC must be healthy enough to respond to the command. Turning off the SSPC for the RIC will NOT cause a SSPCM watchdog timer initiated reboot. Description of workaround – The best option for rebooting the RIC is to have the crew manually reboot using the RS232 cable. If the crew is not available, a main-aux switchover will also initiate a reboot if it becomes necessary.

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 13 RIC Reboot Recovery ON-EXPRESS-SW-9 Affects – All EXPRESS Racks Description of Problem – When the RIC is rebooted either manually or due to a main to aux switchover, the payloads will remain powered. However, the RIC will lose it’s memory, and will need to be reconfigured before nominal ops can be resumed. Description of workaround – In order to resume nominal ops, the RIC and SSPCM have to be synced up. The PRO will load the checkpoint files and then send the commands to enable power and comm for all powered payloads. This process will take approximately 25-45 minutes depending on AOS/LOS considerations.

Jenn Whitworth I2 PRO 256-961-1604 jennifer.whitworth@tbe.com 14 EXPRESS Rack 1 Main to Aux ON-EXPRESS-SW-7 Affects –EXPRESS Rack 1 Description of Problem – When switching from Main to Aux on ER1, the RIC appears to go through 2 reboots of the RIC. The second reboot is indicated by the “timeout” error on the SSPCM, and the fact that the reboot takes 4 minutes instead of 2 for ER2 and HRF. Description of workaround –
