Similes, Metaphors, Personification and Idioms are all considered figurative language literary devices because they help paint pictures (figures) in your mind as you read. Imagery, which uses your senses to paint pictures, is also figurative language

Similes: Comparing 2 things using like or as Metaphors: A comparison of 2 things without the use of “like” or “as” Personification: Giving human-like qualities to a non-human figure Idioms: A word or phrase that means something different from its literal meaning
