Why I Believe In God 1

I. I want to believe in God 2

It is my right to believe in God Atheists think it is their right not to believe in God I believe in God and I think the evidence is overwhelming for the existence of God! 3

II. I believe in God because of the created universe 4

“Christians in the 21st century think too little about God’s creation; consequently, we think too little about God.” (Eric Lyons)http://www.apologeticspre ss.org/APContent.aspx?category= 12&article=1591http://www.apologeticspre ss.org/APContent.aspx?category= 12&article=1591 5

Ps. 19:1-4 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. 6

All creation reveals God The heavens – because of their tremendous size, majesty, order etc. – are, to many people, a truly awesome revelation of God 7

The telescope and the microscope open a wealth of information that points to God The heavens declare the glory of God All creation proclaims His wisdom and power 8

The message of the heavens never stops – It is constantly ongoing Days have their special message - -- sun, light, etc. Night shows the stars, moon, etc. 9

3 There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. 10

4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, 11

The language of the universe is not in words God gives His message of creation so that all men can see and understand It is a silent message which reaches all of the world 12

God has a universal message in nature, and He also has a universal message today in the gospel Every morning with the rising sun (and other wonders in nature) God declares His glory 13

Rom. 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 14

-Paul is simply saying that a careful examination of God’s creation ["the things that are made"] not only declare the “invisible attributes” of God — His power and glory…. 15

but His provision for mankind and all living things…Thus the man who rejects the existence of God is not only “without excuse,” but according to God, he is a “fool” (Mike Riley) 16

“All created things are God’s silent witnesses – silent, but none the less convincing.” (R.L. Whiteside) 17

Mallee fowl Information on this bird can be found on the Apologetics Press Website at http://www.apologeticspress.org/APCont ent.aspx?category=12&article=1451 http://www.apologeticspress.org/APCont ent.aspx?category=12&article=1451 18

Mallee fowl (Bird in Australia) 19

Mallee Fowl nest 20

The male bird makes the nest: It has an average circumference of 70 ft. --- is about 3 ft. high --- the bottom layer is rotting compost and the top layer is sand The compost heats the nest 21

The female lays about 18 eggs in the nest one at a time While the eggs are in incubation the male maintains the temperature of the nest 22

Mallee fowl Google Images 23

Mallee fowl The egg chamber is kept at a constant 33° C (92  F.) by opening and closing air vents in the insulation layer, while heat comes from the compost below. 24

How does the male bird know what the temperature is? The male pokes his beak into the nest --- he then sticks out his tongue which can measure the temperature to 1/10 of a degree 25

If the nest is too cold, the male adds sticks to produce more heat and sand to insulate the nest If the nest is too hot he removes some of the sand covering the nest 26

1. How did the mallee fowl “know” to pile sticks and other debris inside the nest to make a compost? 2. How did such an accurate temperature device come to be in this marvelous bird? 27

Did evolution produce this bird or is it a part of God’s great design? Which is more believable? 28

III. I believe God exists because of His revealed word 30

The only other way for us to come to a knowledge of God is through His word (Bible) 31

Gen. 1:1 [1] In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 32

This is perhaps the most profound statement ever uttered. Out of this great statement unfolds everything else that is contained in the word of God…It is a summation of the creation, and is taken as an independent verse. The remainder of the… 33

chapter gives the details of the creation, and chapter two fills in specific details regarding the creation of man. This verse affirms that God is responsible for the existence of all things. "For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God“ (Bob Winton) 34

2 Tim. 3:16 [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 35

2 Pet. 1:3 [3] According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue 36

The Bible gives good evidence to prove that God exists Rom. 1:19-21 – there is enough information in nature so that people are “without excuse” when it comes to belief in God Ps. 19:1-2 – The heavens declare the glory of God – show the work of His hands 37

Acts 14:17 [17] Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. 38

Heb. 3:4 [4] For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. 39

Psalms 19:7 [7] The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 40
