3 War Begins Men enlist by the millions leaving jobs with no workers
Women are encouraged to go into the work force. This causes a drastic change in gender roles in every nation.

4 Life on the Home Front Women take over traditional male roles
They go to work in factories and farms by the thousands supporting the war effort Rationing imposes hardships

5 Women in War Jobs The War Advertising Council's Women in War Jobs campaign is the most successful advertising recruitment campaign in American history. Rosie the Riveter, a fictional character immortalized by posters supporting the war effort and a wartime song of the same name, helped to recruit more than two million women into the workforce.

15 Women’s Baseball in the 1940’s
In 1943, the United States was in full force fighting in World War II. P.K. Wrigley received word from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt that the 1943 Major League baseball season might be suspended due to a man-power shortage. He wanted Wrigley to do something to keep the baseball game going until the men got home from service.

17 Wrigley selected four cities in close proximity to league headquarters in Chicago to host the first teams: Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin; Rockford, Illinois; and South Bend, Indiana. Due to the Sexist ideas of the age, women were able to effectively fight a covert war against the enemy Saboteur – someone who commits sabotage or causes wrecks Partisan – an enthusiastic supporter of an activity

News coverage encouraged many women to get jobs as correspondents.

31 After the War The new found freedom for women both in the US and elsewhere was taken away as men returned. Governments encouraged women to “return to the home and family”

Women saw combat as nurses at Pearl Harbor WAC’s became a permanent part of the U.S. Army and were landing in Normandy on D-day 67 Army nurses and 16 Navy nurses were captured and spent 3 years as Japanese prisoners of war 350,000 American women served in the military during WWII, some killed in action Nearly a million women went to work in government jobs
