Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

About Ian Ian grew up in Olympia Washington and came to faith in Jesus as a teenager. Ian studied Asian Studies at the University of Washington and received a Masters in Missions at Wheaton College in Illinois. Ian has served as a missionary in Japan, South Korea and among Bhutanese Nepali refugees in Chicago, Illinois.

Why Japan? The Japanese are one of the largest Unreached People Groups (UPG) in the world —less than 1% of the 128 million Japanese people in worldwide have a faith in Jesus Christ. Japan is a spiritually dark country where the Gospel has yet to take a deep foothold despite being open to missionaries. God loves the people of Japan and desires them to know His grace and forgiveness.

The Silent Tsunami 15,870 Men, women and children died in the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. Over 20,000 Japanese pass into Eternity each week without a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

Opportunity Since the March 2011 Tsunami, God has been working in unprecedented ways among the Japanese people. There is an openness to the Gospel that we have not seen since the end of the Pacific War. Many young Japanese people are discontent and are looking for something to hope in—this is the time to be starting a new work in Japan!

What will Ian be doing? Many of the towns and cities in Japan do not even have a single church. There is an urgent need for new church planting among the Japanese. Studying the Japanese language and culture in order to communicate the Gospel in the heart language of the people. Partner with Japanese pastors and other missionaries. My desire is to see a Church Planting Movement begin in Japan!

Romans 10:9, 13-15, 17 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved… For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
