4 CHICHEN ITZA

5 The most famous temple city of the ‘Maya’. Chichen Itza is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico; an estimated 1.2 million tourists visit the ruins every year.

6 Chichen Itza is located in the eastern portion of Yucatán state in Mexico.

7 The structure is 24 m high, plus an additional 6 m for the temple. The square base measures 55.3 m across.

8 Each of its four sides has 91 steps. One step represents each day of the year.

9 COLOSSEUM

10 It is situated in the centre of the city of Rome.

11 It was capable of seating around 50,000 spectators. The arena itself was 83 meters by 48 meters.

12 It was used for Gladiators’ fights and public performances.

13 Some fights were also against animals. Such events were occasionally on a huge scale; Trajan is said to have celebrated his victories in Dacia in 107 with contests involving 11,000 animals and 10,000 gladiators over the course of 123 days.

14 It was a symbol of fight and entertainment.

17 A statue of Jesus Christ in Brazil; considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world and the 5th largest statue of Jesus in the world.

18 It is 39.6 metres (130 ft) tall, including its 9.5 metres (31 ft) pedestal, and 30 metres (98 ft) wide. It weighs 635 tonnes. It is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park.

21 GREAT WALL OF CHINA

22 It is an ancient Chinese fortification built between 220–206 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang.

23 The wall was made to protect Chinese Empire or its prototypical states against intrusions by various nomadic groups or military incursions by various warlike peoples or forces.

24 It was built to protect the rule of China, to defend their own borders.

25 An archaeological survey found that the entire wall with all of its branches measure out to be 21,196 km. This is made up of 6,259 km sections of actual wall, 359 km of trenches and 2,232 km of natural defensive barriers such as hills and rivers.

26 The Great Wall was mainly built from rammed earth, stones, and wood.

28 MACHU PICCHU

29 “The Lost City Of The Incas”

30 Machu Picchu is located in the Cusco Region of Peru, South America. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba, Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows.

31 It is 80 kilometers northwest of Cusco, on the crest of the mountain Machu Picchu, located about 2450 metres above mean sea level, over 1000 metres lower than Cusco, which has an altitude of 3600 metres.

32 Machu Picchu was built around 1450, at the height of the Inca Empire (1438-1472). It was just abandoned just over 100 years later, in 1572, as a belated result of Spanish Conquest.

35 PETRA

36 It is a historical and archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma’an. Established around the 6 th century BCE as the capital city of the Nabataeans.

38 ‘Petra’ means Stone in Arabic. It is famous for its rock cut architecture and water conduit system.

40 TAJ MAHAL

41 Taj Mahal is a White Marbel Mausoleum located in Agra, India.

42 Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to honor the memory of his beloved late third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz died during the birth of their 14 th child.

43 It is recognized as “The jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.” It is the finest example of Mughal architecture.

44 The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsman. The main architects of the construction was Abd ul Karim Ma;mur Khan, Makramat Khan and the principle designer Ustad Ahmad Lahaur. The principle mausoleum was completed in 1648 and the surroundings and garden were finished five years later.

45 It covers an area of 1003 acres. The base structure is approximately 55 metres in each of the four sides. The marble dome that surmounts the tomb is the most spectacular feature. Its height of around 35 metres and it sits on a cylindrical ‘drum’ which is roughly 7 metres high. The minarets each are 40 mitres tall.
