HOW DOES A BACTERIOPHAGE REPRODUCE? A I C R E

1. Virus attaches to outside of host cell. 2. Virus injects genetic material into host cell. 3. Virus genetic material takes over the host cell's activities (controls). 4. Host cell is forced to make and assemble new virus particles (reproduces). 5. Host cell bursts, so the new viruses can escape to infect more cells.

T M M B B B A B B A A A B A B A VIRAL INVASION

HOW DO WE FIGHT OFF INVADING VIRUSES? Viral infections cannot be cured/treated; only symptoms can be treated. Antibiotic treat bacterial infections NOT viral infections!

The Bad News and the Good News BAD 1. DISEASE: -Annoying diseases include: measles, mumps, colds and flu, warts and chicken pox. -Serious diseases include: hepatitis, smallpox, rabies, herpes, encephalitis, HIV and yellow fever. GOOD 1. Vaccines can help you develop immunity to certain diseases. 2. Viruses can be used as specific pesticides. 3.Viruses are used to genetically engineer bacteria to produce useful substances. 4.Gene Therapy may one day treat genetic diseases
