3 POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS Possessive pronouns are words that take the place of nouns. Possessive pronouns show who or what owns or possesses something.

5 Rules for Possessive Pronouns Use my, your, her, our, and their before nouns. Use mine, yours, hers, ours, and theirs alone. His and its can be used both before nouns and alone. Do not use an apostrophe with a possessive pronoun.

6 POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE Renee said, “My dogs like to swim.” My is the possessive pronoun and it takes the place of Renee.

7 POSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE I will show you the crowns that I own. is changed to I will show you mine.

8 POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE Your teacher is funny! Your is the possessive pronoun and it takes the place of the teacher’s name.

13 POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE The best seats in the stadium are the ones that Rick and I have. is changed to The best seats in the stadium are ours.
