2. Chinese Spring Festival (New year festival) It is the grandest and the most important festival for Chinese people

3. Time of the festival  The first day of the New Year falls between 21 January and 20 February.  2015 Chinese New Year falls on February 19. It is the Year of the Sheep according to Chinese zodiac.Year of the Sheep  2016 Chinese New Year will fall on February 8. It is called Year of the Monkey.

History about this festival  Spring Festival, has more than 4,000 years of history  Originating during the Shang Dynasty (about 17th - 11th century BC)  people offered sacrifice to ancestors in the last month of the lunar calendar  Later, people began to worship different deities as well on that day.  The sacrificing time changed and was not fixed until the Han Dynasty (202BC- 220AD)

Some Taboo about this festival  they mustn't do cleaning and wash their hair in the first three days as that will sweep/wash away good luck.  A cry of a child is believed to bring bad luck to the family, so the young are placated fastidiously.  Another interesting thing is the red underwear. Red is believed to ward off bad luck and misfortune.  New Year's breakfast: Porridge should not be eaten  A married daughter is not allowed to visit the house of her parents.  Don't give certain gifts, like clocks, scissors, and pears
