Goals of Creativity Training Raising creativity consciousness, teaching creative attitudes, and strengthening creative personality traits Improving students’ understanding of creativity Strengthening creative abilities through exercise Teaching creative thinking techniques Involving students in creative activities Fostering academic creativity

Tips for Strengthening Creativity Know when to be creative and when to conform Find out what you are best at Be motivated from inside yourself, not from the outside Do not let personal problems stop your thinking and your work Do not take on more- or less- than you can handle Be persistent Make your environment more creative

Brainstorming Effective creative thinking technique Used for practicing creative thinking and strengthening attitudes and abilities Helps with solving pressing school problems

Rules for Brainstorming Criticism is ruled out Freewheeling is welcomed Quantity of wanted Combination and improvement are sought

Creative Teaching and Learning Maintain high teacher enthusiasm Accept individual differences (preferred ways of learning, learning rates, faults) Permit the curriculum to be different for different students Communicate that the teacher is “for” rather than “against” the child Encourage and permit self-initiated projects Support students against peer conformity pressures Try to be “adventurous of spirit”

Creative Teaching, cont. Don’t be blinded by intelligence test scores; they don’t tell the whole story Don’t let pressure for evaluation get the upper hand Encourage divergent ideas; too many “right” ideas are stifling Create necessities for creative thinking Don’t be afraid to wander off the teaching schedule and try something different
