3 Cells T cells: o T cells are used to activate other immune cells, like B cells an other t cells o T cells turn off suppress immune cells in your body o T cells get rid of the infected cells, which have been effected by viruses and cells that have been transformed into cancer B cells:  A B cell will make an antibody which will block viruses from getting into your body, while another cell attacks bacterium that makes pneumonia. Other cells:  Natural killer  Respectively cells  T helper Source: http://womansgirls.com/normal-cells-vs-cancer- cells/ Source: http://www.wisegeek.org/what- are-plasma-cells.htm

4 Elements of the system  White blood cells  Antibodies  Bone marrow: The yellow tissue in the centre of your bones that is responsible for making white blood cells.  Complement system  Interferon  Hormones  Spleen: The largest Lymphatic organ in the body. it contains white blood that fight infections or diseases. it also helps control the amount of blood in your body.  Thymus: A small organ located just behind the Breastbone. this is where your T-cells grow.  Special cells  Proteins  Tissues  Organs Source: http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/Encyclopedia/ GetImage.aspx?ImageID=259187

5 White blood cells Red blood cells White blood cells, also called leukocytes Some of the white blood cells are: Neutrophils, which move around the body in the blood and seek out foreign material (things that don't belong in your body). Macrophages are the biggest blood cells. They live in different parts of the body to help to keep it clean: in the lungs, others swim around cleaning up other white blood cells that have been damaged, cleaning up pus that has been caused by neutrophils when they work to clear out bacteria from a wound. Lymphocytes work on bacterial and viral infection.

6 How the system works  The immune system is made up of special cells and chemicals that fight infection. The white blood cells that make up the immune system are made in the bone marrow. These cells move through blood and tissue. Every time a microbe (germ) is overcome, the immune system remembers that microbe. If the body comes in contact with that microbe again, it will be defeated quickly.
